Bloggers are influencing the political, technology, show business and personal communities and their effect is staggering. As the numbers grow from the 70 million bloggers that exist now, imagine what kind of storm they will be creating next year. The availability of information on a blog and the immediacy of which it is published has serious power, power enough to influence public elections and alter perceptions.
Recently, I was thinking about closing my blog since I was trying to become a serious journalist, but then I realized that I have been given an opportunity really help change the world. Since playing field has been evened out we all have a chance to communicate at warp speed in ways that no one has done or gone before. You all know that I have been excited about the late Star Trek writer and producer Michael Piller’s book that I have been entrusted with. I realize now that with millions of fellow Star Trek fans that if each one told another enthusiast that the entire community would be enlightened! I have had the opportunity to read the entire book and I can promise you all that it has changed my life. It is important that each of you who are inspired as I am, blog about it. In fact I would like you to share something that Michael said in an interview that continues to inspire me:
When we conceived this idea (1998, Star Trek Insurrection) it was at a time in my career and in Star Trek that I saw the franchise moving away, perhaps, and a lot of people felt this way, by necessity, moving away from Gene Roddenberry’s philosophy of Gene (Roddenberry) I had a very simple goal as a writer for this film: I wanted to do one for Gene.
…I thought I had a responsibility as the keeper of the flame. I wanted it to be optimistic about the future, the way gene Roddenberry would have appreciated it! –Michael Piller, 2005.
Not only can assimilate the information we are given in our own collective consciousness but the philosophy that we all know and believe in could change the course of the future for the better.
If you don’t have know how to blog and make your voice heard around the world wide web my friend Artie Wayne and I have come up with an idea for you. We both believe in the power of blogging which is why we wrote a 25 page booklet, Guide to Advanced Blogging that shows you how to write better, use effective headlines and tags strong enough to land your article on page one of Google searches.
If you want to know more information about the Guide to Advanced Blogging please click here.
Now here this: There will be another fascinating chapter from Michael Piller’s unpublished, unknown and unavailable book that chronicles the writing of Star Trek Insurrection with a look inside “Roddenberry’s Box”…In Michael’s own Words!
Right here THURSDAY at MIDNIGHT UTC!

I have just learned that Hillary Clinton is running for President in 2008! I am elated with the prospect of another Clinton in the White House. I decided to pay her official website a visit and after a wonderful welcome message I clicked to the blog. It asked me if I wanted to write the first post. This was quite an exciting prospect and I knew it was not one to be taken lightly. I would imagine they are screening posts and deciding which on to use as the first. I have taken the chance and below is my letter to Mrs. Clinton.
Dear Mrs. Clinton,
Congratulations on your decision to run for presidency in 2008. I am an American who lives in England but I make sure I always keep up to date with American and World politics. I just watched an interview with your husband on Fox from September last year and it reminded me how much better America was when he was in the White House.
I believe you have what it takes to restore the world’s faith in America. I hate feeling that as an American abroad that I have to worry not to voice my opinions too loudly as my accent might be recognized as similar to that of President Bush, a man who the world recognizes as causing most of our problems.
I look forward to a day when we as Americans can feel totally proud of what our country is doing at home and on foreign soil. I look forward to a day when America can join the world’s fight to save the planet from destruction by depletion of fossil fuels and not just brush it aside as unimportant and irrelevant.
I think electing you as the next President is in America’s and the World’s best interest and I only wish the change of command could be a little sooner.
Best of luck in your campaign.

Wow! It certainly has been quite a long break! Regular readers of SebRT might have been wondering what is going on and I thank everyone who has emailed me asking if I am alright. I am alright, just been sorting out a few things and of course there was the holidays. Speaking of holidays, I hope everyone had a very good holiday season whatever you celebrated, we celebrate Christmas so I am wishing everyone a very belated Merry Christmas!
I am looking forward to continuing to blog again and my god have I missed it, but I have always had the policy, if I don’t have anything to say, I won’t say anything and for the last few weeks with the Christmas holiday going I haven’t had a great deal that I want to blog about. That is not to say that I have just been sitting around not getting any writing done at all though. I have been working on multiple writing projects including a TV Drama that involves terrorism and extortion at the highest levels of the NYPD. Stay tuned for more on that one!
There are some very exciting things on the horizon that I can’t talk about right now with the exception of one of the things on the horizon might be an official writing position with an official published periodical. The only other work I have had published recently was my Christmas 2006 contribution to PC Plus Magazine. But that could all change soon, and hopefully will. Cross you fingers!
On a slightly more serious note, I have been having some website issues while I have not been blogging the last few weeks. One of them being the comments that seem to be making it through askimet (askimet is the Spam blocking software that Wordpress use to help bloggers not have their blogs overrun with Spam comments) that are clearly SPAM and are clearly not real people. The comments are things like:
“I like your site.” – Which is very nice, but it just doesn’t seem like something someone would comment on an article I wrote in 2005.
So I am thinking about disabling comments. Disabling comments would be inconvenient for my readers who really want to feedback legitimately but it would stop all these ridiculous emails from permeating my inbox that contain posts to be vetted that are obviously spam and were not caught by Askimet.
Maybe now that the blog will be totally active again, even though it has not even been a month, the Askimet will start to tow the line a little more effectively like it used to!
Happy 2007 everyone! I’m Back! Let’s make it a great year!
I
am so sick of getting spam in my email for just about any reason you
can think of. A few weeks ago I started to keep track of the amount of
Nigerian/Misc. African capitol I have won, Australian lottery winnings,
and of course how many people have hacked my eBay and Paypal accounts!
The numbers are a little shocking. On any given day 50 percent of the
mail I receive into my Mozilla Thunderbird is spam. Most of it comes into my Yahoo address which really is only used for eBay
now. I wonder who is selling my information then? Hmm… Doesn't take a
rocket scientist does it? Isn't it against some law to sell my personal
information? Or at least moral law.
So let's see. I have been selected as the person to “front” money for various reasons a total of 79 times in the last 30 days. And if the money was real I would have made a gargantuan 900 Million dollars. If only I had sent my bank account details to these people I would be rich by now, I was considering sending along my social security number to help them with the transaction!
On the Australian lottery I have won just under 64 million, not quite sure if it is American dollars or Australian! I can't believe my fortune winning that much, all I had to do was quickly send them my banking details, my full mailing address, the sort code of my bank, and my preferred method of transfer. Well if it had been my choice they could have sent it by Paypal… then I would get the money! Unfortunately there is are no lottery winnings. The bastards are trying to scam me yet again. Who actually falls for this stuff?
Ohh.. and not to mention the amount of Viagra I get to try for free should keep my ED away for at least 100 years! I think I have either won or been designated to try over 300 samples of Viagra in the last 30 days. Why do these bastards think I need it? How many 19 year olds do you know that need Viagra? Morons should learn about market research.
I have had countless emails telling my that my eBay account has been limited, suspended, canceled, hacked, deleted, stolen, even that my account has been promoted and all they need me to do is sign it with the following link. Oh yeah, sounds really legitimate.. Please sign in so we can make you a silver start power seller when I have an eBay history of only 159, doesn't a power seller need over 1000 sales? Again the morons should have done their market research.
My message to all you out there who send spam to people is this.
STOP. You're the ones who look really stupid. You can't do proper
market research, you send things that are just obscene and you just
waste the time of the people you are trying to scam. Thank god there
are programmes like Akismet and weblogs like this which prevent your perverted actions from damaging everyone! Get a life!
